Oct 13, 2004 – Deftones – House Of Blues, Orlando FL

April 13, 2012

DEFTONES > YOU!!!  Another killer show by Chino and company!  RichardG drove up for the show – that kid loves some Deftones.  CUZ THEY DESTROY U ALL!!!  There is nothing like a Deftones pit at the HOB…all haters can SABOD!!  Opening band was Dredg (??), some crappy Alt Rock band with a cellist.  Yes, a cellist.  Deftones were touring on their eponymous album, arguably their worst album to date as of this post.  But their concerts transcend any one album and are a strong reason why they are at the top of my list of current bands.

Aug 18, 2004 – Projekt Revolution – Tampa Bay Amphitheatre, Tampa FL

April 13, 2012

Following in the footsteps of many other band-owned festivals (Summer Sanitarium, Family Values, Ozzfest), Linkin Park spawned their own semi-annual festival tour, Projekt Revolution.  PR2004 was the third tour in as many years and it was truly a killer line-up.  Linkin Park anchored the festival of course, following the release of Meteora (best LP album, imo).  Co-headlining the festival were Korn, supporting Take A Look In The Mirror, and Snoop Dogg, promoting R&G.  Additional opening acts were The Used and Less Than Jake.  My friend RichardG and Nina both came to town for the show and we all were in the pit within 3 or 4 bodies from the stage through the entire festival. Great sets by every single act!  This was the last time I saw Korn with Head still playing in the band – he left shortly after and they haven’t been the same since.  One very cool memory was Snoop performing a rap-metal song he released just for the PR 2004 CD Sampler called ‘Fool’n Yaself’.  It was also my first exposure to Less Than Jake and The Used and I am a big fan of The Used now.  The mixture of so many different types of music like Ska, Alt Rock, Rap, Metal in one show was definitely a fun blend.

Jul 15, 2004 – Sevendust – House Of Blues, Orlando FL

April 11, 2012

Yes, this is the exact same Sevendust/Nonpoint/Skindred show I saw last night in St Pete (see previous post), now one night later in Orlando.  Some slight differences this time: 1 – HOB is a WAY better venue than stank Jannus Landing, 2 – Nina went to the show with me, and 3 – I GOT A GUITAR PICK, BIRCHES!!!  The entire show was again excellent and the icing on the cake was that Nina kept begging for me to give her the custom, one-of-a-kind 7D pick that I fought for – AS IF?!  You must be outside of your mind.

Jul 14, 2004 – Sevendust – Jannus Landing Courtyard, St. Petersburg FL

April 11, 2012

I am here to bear witness that I got JasonR to a Sevendust concert once!  This was show #3 from the 7D Seasons tour and this time they brought opening acts Skindred, promoting Babylon, and Nonpoint, supporting Recoil, both great bands that made for a awesome triple bill, what I still claim is the sweet spot for concert perfection.  We didn’t make it in time to see Travesty Theory, the throw-away opener.

I remember the entire courtyard just being one big pit during Nonpoint and especially Sevedust.  Jason and I got separated during 7D and all I remember is the walk back to the car after the show, a sloppy post-pit mess, and seeing this guy walking ahead of me in a saggy, soppy wife beater and khakis…it was Jason.  In leftover work clothes minus his shirt.  He claimed to have been in the fray and judging from his level of dishevelment, I had no reason to doubt him.

As I look at the pics below, I wonder why they didn’t name this leg of the tour something like “Attack of the Dreads” or “The Dreadnaut”.  Guess they aren’t as clever as me.

Jun 10, 2004 – moe. – House Of Blues, Orlando FL

April 11, 2012

I was offered a free ticket to see moe. from JohnF, a co-worker at my new job at GC, and figured I would take him up on it.  Kinda twangy at times, kinda funky at times…but all in all a decent jam band.  And for a free concert at one of my favorite venues, what’s not to enjoy?

Apr 25, 2004 – Earthday Birthday 11 – Lee Vista Center, Orlando FL

April 11, 2012

Tomorrow I start my new job at GC.  Today, I am going to Earthday Birthday!  An all-day festival with multiple stages and tons of Alt Rock and Metal!  Nina and RichardG came to town for the show and we were all there from start to finish…looong day. The lineup included Offspring, Puddle Of Mudd, Sevendust, Three Days Grace, Smile Empty Soul, Damageplan, Hatebreed, Drowning Pool, Trapt, Lo-Pro, Tantric, Soil and Shinedown.

Mar 6, 2004 – Linkin Park – Philips Arena, Atlanta GA

April 10, 2012

Linkin Park touring off the Meteora album, with supporting acts P.O.D., Hoobastank, and Story Of The Year.  I remember taking Melissa, this chick I dated for all of three weeks, using the ticket I originally bought for Nina.  Still makes me happy to this day to think about telling her I was taking Melissa instead of her with the ticket intended for her.  I’m evil…deal with it…moving on.

Anyway, we turned this mediocre concert into a great weekend in Atlanta…nice hotel, dinner out, Mako’s Bar for the party the night before.  Linkin Park was very polished and sounded great live but as always, lacked depth and sounded too contrived.  P.O.D. was already on minute 14 of their 15 minutes of fame, but they had maybe 6 or 7 songs that were noteworthy.  Hoobastank was kinda stank, and I didn’t even make it in time for Story Of The Year.
