I went to see Papa Roach for the second time on the tour for Getting Away With Murder. This was also the 4th time seeing Nonpoint (on of my favorite now), who opened up along with Burn Season. Fellow attendees included Joe and Candice. Papa Roach is a fun band to see live, plenty of hits, albeit nothing with any real substance to it…but nonetheless fun. Nonpoint rules obviously and Burn Season was a new band I discovered and then started listening to as a result of this concert.
This was my third time seeing Chevelle, once as opener and twice as the main act, all in 2005 promoting the album This Type Of Thinking (Could Do Us In). This particular show had Taproot and 30 Seconds To Mars as the opening acts and was a great concert in spite of how much Taproot sucked after their first album. Not a lot in the way of a crazy stage shows with any of these bands (tech, pyro, acro, etc.) but 3oSTM and Chevelle delivered killer sets…great vocals and songs. I went with Joe, Candice, and Nikki and it was a great show all the way around!
So you may be wondering how can this be only my 2nd time seeing The Black Crowes? Yeah, I asked myself the same thing and went digging and realized they were on hiatus from2002-2005 and this was the first tour once they returned. This was the All Join Hands tour, which was filmed and released as a live CD/DVD combo in 2006 as Freak ‘n’ Roll…Into The Fog. I went to this concert with Nina, but I can’t seem to dig up any information about opening bands. These guys are by far my favorite non-metal/hard rock band and have been for many years. They went on hiatus again in 2011, but that is a different post coming at a later date.
